2010 Kansas City Walk Now for Autism Speaks

Thursday, October 21, 2010 View Comments

It was a beautiful sunny day on Saturday, October 16th at the Kansas Speedway in Kansas City as 8,000 families and friends across Kansas and Missouri joined together for the 3rd Annual Kansas City Walk Now for Autism Speaks.  The Walk to date has raised $135,000!

The crowd listens as we gather to start the Walk.

New this year was the Advancing Futures for Adults with Autism information tent, followed along with our Teen Tent, ABCnD Sensory Tent and over 45 Resource Vendors.

“Our Walk committee was in full force making sure this day was special for each attendee and the teams loved the later start time” stated Lisa Booth KC Walk Chair. “There was non-stop entertainment as Miss Gaby and Friends performed songs from No Such Thing As Normal, a musical about autism, Jedi Knight fight scenes, and the GAGE cheer squad, a cheer squad of young ladies with autism.”

Thousands of walkers rounding the corner of the Kansas Speedway.

The crowd stood in awe as the LifeFlight Eagle Helicopter took off prior to the start of the Walk. The First Responders area which included the Kansas City Kansas Fire Department and the LifeFlight Eagle where key stops to families. Celebration of the passing of the Kansas and Missouri Insurance Bills  brought cheers from the crowd as recapping the successes of the year. A special thank you to all our sponsors for all their support and dedication to our community.
