The 2010 Greater Austin Walk Now for Autism Speaks, chaired by Tracy Burwell, raised over $80,000 to date. 3,000 participants attended the event on Saturday, October 9th at The Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas.
This year’s sponsors included HEB, Santé Pediatric Services, Carino’s, Austin CEO Foundation, Communication Station, and Tasty Bites. Over 25 local service providers participated in the event’s Community Resource Fair so that families could learn more about programs, products, and services available in the Greater Austin area. Adding to the day’s festivities, Home Depot provided a children’s workshop, where kids were able to make their own tool boxes.
The Star Wars Storm Troopers and Geoffrey from Toys"R"Us were also on hand to celebrate. Ashley Melnick, Miss Texas 2010, opened the event with a beautiful rendition of our national anthem and greeted walkers in her crown--and cowboy boots in true Texas fashion! Lorianna Hernandez from Fox 7 served as the event MC. For more information about the Walk, visit our Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/autismspeaks.austin.
