The 2016 Autism Speaks Walk – Palm Beach held its annual kick-off celebration on December 1st at the West Palm Beach Lake Pavilion, which is right along the Palm Beach walk route! Held on Giving Tuesday, it was an inspiring evening for all attendees, including over 100 team captains, volunteers, local service providers, sponsors and supporters.
Michael Williams from WPTV welcomed the audience and introduced the various speakers for the evening, which included local Autism Speaks grant recipients Project Lifesaver International's Gene Saunders and Mountaineers School of Autism's Mary Jo Walsh Watson. Palm Beach staffers, Mary Robosson and Melissa Di Nuzzo spoke on behalf of the School District of Palm Beach County, where they introduced a new partnership between the two organizations and then the crowd heard a truly inspiring speech from self-advocate Alonso Velazquez.
In the words of our 2014 Volunteer of the Year Charlene Maville, “We all left feeling energized and ready to kick 2016 into high gear. LOVED hearing everyone who spoke… and the venue & food – AMAZING!.” We couldn’t have done it without our committed volunteers, and of course our autism community! We want to thank Christina's Catering for the phenomenal food, Richard Grille Events for the beautiful centerpieces, which were then donated to Hospice Foundation of Palm Beach County, and of course our Kick Off Sponsor, TD Bank!
