This guest post is from Michael Korins, an adult with autism who has a passion for singing. This post is part of an initiative on our site called “In Our Own Words: Living on the Spectrum,” which highlights the experiences of individuals with autism from their perspectives. Michael’s dad writes, “Being a self-advocate has not come easily to Michael. But ask him what he wants to be when he graduates High School, he will tell you immediately that he wants to be a singer."
Michael writes, "My dream is to become a professional singer when I graduate from High School. At my Committee on Special Educations meetings at school, I always talk about the music programs I want to be part of. I love to sing and play the piano at charity events. Not long ago I performed a tribute to Paul McCartney with the "Life's Connections Thru Music" performance group which you can see in the video below. He is one of my favorite all time singers. Being successful at music also motivates me to be the best I can be at everything I do."
