Self-Advocate Amy Gravino Joins Us For A Live Chat Next Monday!

Tune in Monday, August 19th at 3 PM ET where Amy Gravino will be hosting a LIVE Chat with us! Amy is a certified college coach for individuals with Asperger's Syndrome, and the founder of A.S.C.O.T (Asperger's Syndrome Coaching and Other Techniques) Coaching, LLC. She is also a seasoned public speaker, and has spoken at conferences, professional development workshops, support group meetings, and more since the age of 14.

Amy shares with us, "When I first began to think about college, the greatest appeal it held was the idea of not being in high school anymore. The post-secondary world held more possibilities than I could have imagined, and my participation in a two-week pre-college summer program cemented my belief that college was where I needed to be.  After years of bullying and torment, I finally had a chance to start fresh. A chance to find those who would accept me for who I was, to enjoy academia and learning free of stress and depression, and to explore the realm of romantic relationships. My sense of independence was bolstered by living in a dormitory and performing daily living tasks that I had never before done on my own. For the first time ever, I was able to see myself as a person not only with autism, but a person with potential and with the ability to make a difference. Post-secondary life and going to college changed the perspective that I had, both of the world around me and of myself, and gradually turned a lifetime of 'I can’t' into 'I can.'”
