Fuzzy Numbers is an evidence-based early math app designed to give preschoolers a head start in math. The app helps children leverage their approximate number system (ANS), a cognitive system responsible for estimating quantity without counting.
Two papers in the Journal of Experimental Child Psychology (Park et al., 2016; Wang et al., 2016) show that children who play digital ANS games demonstrate better math performance (on tests of counting, number identification, addition, etc.) when compared to control groups.
Here's a summary of the research and development of the app on the Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop blog.
