Feedback from some of our 2014 TCS New York City Marathon runners:
- From Jennifer Jarl:
Running a marathon had been a bucket list item for me, but being a New Yorker, the experience was more amazing than I could have dreamed. Training for the big day was a 4 month challenge, but raising a child with autism is one that is life-long. Being a part of this team was inspirational in so many ways- from bad running days to bad days at home- there was always a kind word or encouraging advice from strangers who are now forever a part of my life. I'm proud to have run, proud to have raised money & awareness, and most importantly, proud to be Max's mother.
- From Zobel Belisario:
It felt so good to support a cause close to my heart while training for a race that was also important to me. The support from our team members and coach pushed me through the finish line, and everyone's story of why they were running the NYC Marathon was inspirational.
- From: Kevin Long:
Team-Up/Autism Speaks gave me the opportunity to realize my dream of running the NYC Marathon. The fundraising aspect provided me with a mechanism for sharing my journey and awareness of autism with family, friends and colleagues (and even a few strangers). Winners all around!
- From Karen Wilkins-Mickey:
Running NYC was a dream come true and running for TeamUp! with Autism Speaks and my son was my motivation to start and finish this amazing race!! One step at a time for a lifetime of help to cure Autism. It's the least I could do. My son struggles daily, I struggle for a day.
- From Billy Herr:
NYC 2014 was life changing. To be able to experience the course, the spectators, the overall atmosphere, and to do it while raising money for Autism Speaks is something that I'll never forget and can never replicate.
- From Sandra Lynn Bicknese:
My first Marathon was November 2014! I raised 7,140 for Autism Speaks. It was the most fulfilling achievement I ever did!!! Elizabeth Maiuolo you were my rock !!!!! :):)
- From Mira Naku-Toth: Advocating for Autism one Marathon at a year! This is what I’m using these days. .. I use to say advocating one mile at time!

Held annually on the first Sunday in November, the race features the world’s top professional athletes and a vast range of competitive, recreational, and charity runners. The race began in 1970 with just 127 entrants running four laps around Central Park, and expanded citywide in 1976. In 2014, a record 50,530 runners from 130 countries toured New York City’s five boroughs, starting on Staten Island at the foot of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge, and running through the neighborhoods of Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx, before ending in Manhattan at the iconic Central Park finish line. More than one million spectators line the city streets to cheer on the runners, while millions more watch the live television broadcast in the United States and around the world. The race is part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, a series featuring the world’s top marathons—Tokyo, Boston, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York—and crowning the top professional male and female marathoners of the series.
