Katie Wright is the mother of 9-year-old Mattias and 11-year-old Christian. Christian has autism. Katie’s parents, Bob and Suzanne Wright, founded Autism Speaks in 2005, and it has since grown into the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization.

Autism Speaks Kicks Off Nantucket Walk

On Sunday, July 29th over 200 island residents met at the newly restored Nantucket Dreamland Theater to kick-off the August 18 Walk Now for Autism Speaks, Nantucket.  Considered one of the oldest movie theaters in America, The Dreamland began its life as a Quaker Meeting House, was once a straw hat factory, part of a hotel, and finally, after being floated by barge to its present location in 1906, it became Nantucket’s first vaudeville house.

On April 2, 2012, Autism Speaks celebrated World Autism Awareness Day with the 3rd Annual Light It Up Blue campaign and a series of awareness events. Nearly 3000 iconic buildings and landmarks in over 600 cities and over 50 countries worldwide shone a bright light on autism. People around the world participated in Light It Up Blue to raise autism awareness.
