Calls to Action

Autism Speaks

April 2 marks World Autism Awareness Day and we will be 'Lighting It Up Blue' to shine a bright light on autism. Light It Up Blue, in its third year, is a unique global initiative by Autism Speaks to help raise awareness about the growing public health concern that is autism. Thousands of Iconic landmarks, buildings, and homes around the world are joining us by illuminating in bright blue on the evening of April 2 to show support for millions of people affected by autism.

One of the newest Light It Up Blue participants this year is Aspen, Colorado, where they’ve taken the idea of shining a light on autism seriously. On April 1, Aspen kicks off National Autism Awareness Month as the first ski resort in history to Light It Up Blue. This visual extravaganza on the ski slopes directly above downtown Aspen was created by renowned lighting designer Robert Singer and is part of a three-day celebration throughout the Aspen area.

On Friday evening, March 16th two dozen autistic youngsters and their families quietly filed into the deserted floor of the Verizon Center as the guests of Ringling Bros Barnum & Bailey Circus. Sitting in one of the circus’ three rings, they were treated to a sensory-friendly up-close-and-personal experience with a miniature horse, jugglers, clowns, tightrope artists, and be-spangled dancing girls.

In this episode of Kerry’s Korner I feature Jordan Randles, a 16 year old with asperger syndrome who has already sold 300 blue light bulbs for light it up blue day!
