Calls to Action

Autism Speaks Beyond the Beltway

This blog post is by Ali Dyer, Assistant Director of Grassroots Advocacy. Her older brother Jeff is affected by autism.

‘Our 1 in 68 can’t wait so take 5 to advocate!’ is a slogan that has been drilled into brain by my colleague and friend, Shelley Hendrix. And it is true; prevalence numbers are rising at an alarming rate and we as a nation are not prepared to provide supports for individuals affected by autism. We are in desperate need of Federal funding to invest in research, treatment, training, and services for the autism community at large.

July 4th is a day where we gather with family and friends to celebrate America's Independence. Here are some recipes to make the holiday extra delicious! How about making extra and swinging by your local Congressmember's office to not only share your patriotic spirit, but to also tell them why autism matters to you! Let them know why it is important to pass the Autism CARES Act.

With school out of session we know that is often a challenge to keep your children busy with activity. Autism Speaks Beyond the Beltway is our new program initiative that encourages citizens to begin to build or improve relationships with their elected representatives in the United States Congress.  We know how difficult it can be for our families and advocates to pack up and head to Washington, DC. But you can help right where you live!
