Interviews with Teachers Shed Light on Treatment Methods
Last winter, Autism Speaks had the opportunity to visit Public School 177 (PS-177) in Queens, N.Y. and interview three teachers. PS-177, which offers a dedicated autism education and therapy program, sets the bar high for both public and private schools around the country. Each of the teachers profiled employs a different autism treatment methodology in the classroom.
The three primary autism education methodologies practiced at PS-177 are Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), The Miller Method and Treatment and Education of Autistic and related Communication-handicapped Children (TEACCH). View these new educational videos below.
Applied Behavioral Analysis Alyssa Block describes the basic concepts and application of ABA in her classroom.
The Miller Method Lisa Hauben has been a teacher of the Miller Method for three years and in this video she describes the methodology and its use in her classroom.
TEACCH Stacy Dallojacono uses the TEACCH methodology in her classroom. In this video, you can learn more about Stacy's experience with TEACCH and about the basic tenets of the methodology.
