Remarkable West Texas Walk Now for Autism Increases Participation by 373%
The 4th Annual West Texas Walk Now for Autism took place on Saturday, April 5, with simultaneous events in Abilene, the original site for the walk, where 2,000 people walked at the Angelo Zoo, and in San Angelo, a new location, where 800 people gathered at Foster Field, for a record total of 2,800 walkers. The combined event raised $120,000, with more than 110 teams participating, nearly triple the number of teams walking last year
In Abilene, Mayor Norm Archibald spoke at the ribbon cutting, and walkers were treated to a musical performance by Kina Lankford, a West Texas country singer, and a visit from Captain Jack Sparrow. In San Angelo, children enjoyed tractor and trailer rides. The resource fair showcased 10 booths, including West Texas Rehabilitation, Hendrick Rehabilitation, Early Childhood intervention, and College Living Experience.
