Tampa Walk Now for Autism Raises $175,000 Despite Rain
The 2nd Annual Tampa Walk Now for Autism took place on Saturday, February 23 at Museum of Science & Industry (MOSI) in Tampa, Fla. While rain fell outside, over 2,600 attendees enjoyed the wonderful hands-on children's museum at MOSI. More than 260 teams participated, representing a 46% increase over 2007, and raised more than $175,000.
Tampa Mayor Pam Iorio joined Congresswoman Kathy Castor (D-Tampa), News Channel 8 anchor Stacie Schaiable, Geoffrey the Giraffe from Toys”R”Us and top fundraiser Max Sterns, to cut the ribbon.
The resource fair showcased 21 booths, including All Children's Hospital, The Center for Autism and Related Disabilities at the University of South Florida, and Foundations Therapy Center. Thanks to WellCare and Care Clinics for sponsoring the Walk, Bright House Networks and News Channel 8 for their in-kind support, and to Glaceau for providing Vitamin Water for all of the walkers. Special thanks to Walk Chairs Helyn Moore and Terri Gonzalez for making this walk so successful.
