The walkers, on 91 teams, raised over $76,000 – an 85% increase over 2007. The Walk route took participants from the baseball stadium, through a nature preserve and into the middle of the city of Tacoma. Special thanks to Walk Chairs Mark and Susan Barlet for making the Tacoma Walk such a success.

A local Olympian, weightlifter Melanie Roach, the mother of a child with autism, served as Honorary Walk Chair and told the crowd it takes great perseverance and strength to get to the Olympics, but even more to be the parent of a child with autism. Also in attendance was a clown who could sign for the deaf, make balloon animals and perform magic tricks. Families also enjoyed face painting, crafts and bounce houses. Walkers made a quilt, with each square displaying a picture of a Walk team.
