On Saturday, Oct. 4, more than 2,400 people enjoyed the 7th annual Seattle Walk Now for Autism at the University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor Arena in Seattle, Wash. The walkers, on over 170 teams, raised over $250,000.
Olympic weightlifter Melanie Roach, the mother of a child with autism, spoke during the Opening Ceremonies. Former Seattle Mariner and current FOX Sports baseball analyst Bill Krueger spoke and held a silent auction with sports memorabilia to raise money for Athletes Against Autism. Also on hand was Seattle Seahawks mascot Blitz, who cut the ribbon to start the Walk, led by the Seahawks' Blue Thunder Drum Corp.
The Walk hosted a resource fair, which showcased 38 companies and organizations including TOP Soccer, which offers sporting and social events for children with disabilities and set up a goal with prizes. Additionally, the puppet Zeebu from Playtime with Zeebu provided fun social interaction for children. Walkers enjoyed a performance by local band Cjib and one by children with autism who sang songs.

A number of generous sponsors contributed to the success of the Seattle Walk Now for Autism, including Broderick Group, Children's Hospital, and Seattle Cellars, which all fielded Walk teams. National Walk sponsor Toys”R”Us also fielded a large Walk team, manned a booth full of toys and games and brought along Geoffrey to meet the many young walkers. Many thanks to returning Walk Chair Amy McOmber and returning Honorary Walk Chair Melanie Roach for making the Seattle Walk such a success.
