4,000 Walkers Raise $400,000 at New Jersey Shore Walk Now for Autism
Despite the rainy weather, 4,000 participants came out for the 3rd annual New Jersey Shore Walk Now for Autism in Point Pleasant Beach, N.J., where one of the main roads in town was closed for the event. The 3-mile route took walkers down Ocean Avenue as well as along the boardwalk. It was a wonderful for the families to really feel that their voices were being heard.
The walkers, on 250 teams, raised $400,000 on Walk day – a 19% increase over 2007's Walk. Each of the Walks in the state of New Jersey is located in a community with its own cultural flavor. Typically, people attend the Walk in their own region but because Point Pleasant Beach is a well-known family beach weekend destination, the New Jersey Shore Walk draws people from all over the state.
National Walk Sponsor Toys”R”Us provided materials about special toys available for children with autism and Nutricia provided samples for walkers to enjoy. The Walk also hosted a resource fair which showcased 12 companies
Walkers enjoyed the route throughout beautiful Point Pleasant.
