Long Island Walk Raises Over $1.8 Million
On Sunday, Oct. 14, over 24,000 people walked to show their support at the 8th Annual Long Island Walk Now for Autism at Jones Beach, raising over $1.8 million for Autism Speaks.

Hundreds of walk teams enjoyed the beautiful weather and activities, which included the walk's first resource fair. The informative and well-attended fair included local autism organizations such as AHA/ Asperger Syndrome and High Functioning Autism Association, schools, and health institutions.

Jim Douglas from radio station KJOY served as Honorary Walk Chair and Emcee and kicked off the day's events. Speakers who followed included Michael Giangregorio, chair of the Walk Executive Committee, State Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. of Nassau County,

Craig Allen, Chief Meteorologist for WCBS - AM 880, May-Lynn Andresen from North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System and Autism Speaks President Mark Roithmayr. Also on hand was Cindy Wittels, captain of “Team Tyler W,” the top fundraising walk team in the nation last year. Additionally, three local volunteers were recognized as “Pioneers”: Pat Schissel and Bernice Polinsky of AHA, and Tsila Blank of Eastern Suffolk BOCES.
