Fall 2008 Inaugural Walks are Already Exceeding Expectations
Walk Now for Autism
welcomes 10 inaugural Walks to the 2008 fall season. Kicking off the inaugural walks on September 7th was
Canada's
Edmonton Capital Region Walk
raising over $150,000 and paying special tribute to grandparents in recognition of Grandparents Day!
From coast to coast, our inaugural walks are already surpassing event goals and a number are hoping to break records in both attendance and dollars raised for first-time events. In Columbus,
White Castle, Limited Brands and Ohio State (OSU) are setting the stage for an outstanding first year walk to be held on Sunday,
Walk Chair Marci Ingram, with Laura and Harry Slatkin at the Columbus Kick-off Event. Mr. Slatkin was the keynote speaker of the event attended by 450 and hosted by Limited Brands at their headquarters in Columbus.
October 12th at OSU. To date, over $150,000 has been raised with 1,300 registered participants. To raise additional awareness and dollars, Columbus area White Castle restaurants are donating proceeds from a drink special.
Another inaugural Walk looking to set the bar high is the
Tennessee Walk,
on Saturday, September 13th at the Nashville Superspeedway. The
Greater Hudson Valley Walk
on Saturday, September 27th will have two walk sites to accommodate all walkers. The main site will be Anthony Wayne Recreational Area with a satellite walk at Sullivan County Community College.
On the west coast, the
Sacramento Walk
on September 28th at UC Davis' M.I.N.D. Institute is already close to their goal, with over $135,000 in donations to date. Modesto's,
Central Valley Walk
will take place on Saturday, October 18th at Modesto Junior College.
The Midwest events kick off on September 20th with the
Terre Haute Walk
at Indiana State University. Two additional inaugural walks round out the events in the Midwest. The
South Dakota Walk
will take place on Saturday, October 11 at Sioux Falls Stadium and theKansas City Walk
on Saturday, October 18 at Kansas Motor Speedway. On Sunday, October 19, Autism Speaks welcomes a new and innovative Walk, the
BC Walk/Run Now for Autism
at the Swangard Stadium in British Columbia, Canada. As the title says, this event will also incorporate a run to reach out to those of us who may need to “burn” a little more energy that day!
