3,000 Participants Raise $370,000 at Bay Area Walk Now for Autism

On Saturday, June 7, 3,000 people gathered at Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton, Calif. for the 6th annual Bay Area Walk Now for Autism. The walkers, on 350 teams, raised $370,000. After the Walk, kids visited the railroad exhibit at the fairgrounds and many families held picnics and team parties, enjoying the beautiful weather.
Silvia Chacon of radio station Star 101.3 served as the Walk's emcee. During the opening ceremonies, The Friends of Children with Special Needs Scout Troop kicked off the opening ceremonies and then Casey Bolls performed a song that she wrote. Then, Geoffrey the Giraffe from Toys”R”Us cut the ribbon to start the Walk.

(YouTube video, ~2 minutes)
A resource fair showcased 30 organizations and companies and offered a variety of activities for kids and information for parents. Walkers enjoyed an obstacle course set up by Happy Talkers, a local non-profit organization, the many bubble displays from KEEN, and BDO's balloon punch balls.

A number of generous sponsors contributed to the success of the Bay Area Walk Now for Autism, especially BDO Seidman, LLP which was not only a Silver Sponsor but also fielded the top fundraising team. National Walk Sponsors included Toys”R” Us, Parade Magazine and Nutricia North America. ABC 7 KGO, Clear Channel and Weiscomm Partners contributed media and public relations. Thanks to Hint and Hennessy Distributors which donated water so participants didn't go thirsty! Special thanks to Walk Chair Scott Genter for making the 6th annual Bay Area Walk such a success.
