On Saturday, August 22, more than 800 people turned out at Jetties Beach for the third annual
Nantucket Walk Now for Autism Speaks.
The walkers, on 52 teams, raised over $300,000 in support of Autism Speaks' initiatives. Suzanne Wright called students to the stage to represent the 67 children who are diagnosed with autism each day, creating a poignant reminder of why Walk Now for Autism Speaks is so important in raising awareness and funds. The following weekend, 2,000 participants joined the third annual Nebraska Walk Now for Autism Speaks at Saltdog Stadium at Haymarket Park in Lincoln, raising $40,000. The Walk featured family-friendly entertainment including bounce houses, face painting, and for the first time, a sensory tent. Walkers had the chance to meet several Nebraska Cornhusker football players, and Cornhusker boys tennis players graciously volunteered in the sensory tent.
