Walk Now for Autism, Autism Speaks' signature fundraising event, raised over $3 million at walks in five cities across the country last weekend, as people in communties large and small turned out to walk and raise money and awareness.
On Saturday, May 19, more than 10,000 participants turned out for the Georgia Walk for Autism, presented jointly by Autism Speaks and the Marcus
Walkers at the Northern New Jersey event are ready to get under way
Institute, raising $1.3 million dollars for autism research and treatment (learn more about the Georgia event here). The same day saw walks in Texas, where the Dallas/North Texas event in Arlington, drew 4,000 walkers and over $400,000, and in Pennsylvania, where 600 walkers at the Laurel Highlands event raised $77,000, more than triple the previous year's total.
On Sunday, May 20, over 10,000 walkers gathered in Chicago's Soldier Field, for a Walk Now for Autism event that has raised $1.4 million and counting. The same day, more than 4,000 people, including teams from national walk sponsor Toys "R" Us walked in Yogi Berra Stadium in Montclair, New Jersey, at the Northern New Jersey event.
