Fall Walk Season Kicks Off in Seven Cities

On September 12 and 13, Walk Now for Autism Speaks events took place in seven cities in the United States and Canada; nearly 10,000 people participated, raising over $558,000.
Ft. Wayne Walk Now for Autism Speaks
On Saturday, September 12, 1,300 people raised $46,000 at the fourth annual Fort Wayne Walk Now for Autism Speaks, which took place at a new venue – the Allen County Fairgrounds in Fort Wayne, Ind. For the second year in a row, walkers and volunteers were treated to a pancake breakfast from IHOP. “IHOP Autism Walk Team Fort Wayne” not only generously donated breakfast, but also led the charge with one of the top fundraising teams, which employed a strong Autism Speaks puzzle piece campaign at its area stores. Rochester Walk Now for Autism Speaks
At Monroe Community College, 2,500 walkers (including J-Mac) battled rain but did not let it dampen their spirits at the seventh annual Rochester Walk Now for Autism Speaks, raising nearly $152,000. Instead of a typical balloon arch, a fire truck extended its ladder across the start of the Walk; this was just one of the many highlights, including a resource fair, enjoyed by families. Nearly 600 walkers participated in the day's activities, which included a resource fair, raising over $47,000. Springfield City Council member Doug Burlison read a proclamation signed by the Mayor of Springfield, James O'Neal, designating September 12, 2009 as “World Autism Day” in the City of Springfield.
