Walk Now for Autism Launches '07 in Sunshine State
The 2007 Autism Speaks walk season kicked off in Miami on Sunday, February 11, with over 8,000 participants strolling along the picturesque oceanfront walk route in Key Biscayne. The walk marked the first event of the newly combined “Walk Now for Autism” program, following the merger between Cure Autism Now and Autism Speaks.

Seventy events are planned for across the country this year, with a goal of raising more than $20 million for autism research, awareness and advocacy. In 2006, over $18 million was raised at over 50 Autism Speaks and CAN walks.

Inaugural walks are planned for Allentown, Penn., Cleveland, Detroit, Lincoln, Neb., Minneapolis and Oklahoma City. “It is an exciting period of growth and change for the walk program” said Susan Gloor, National Walk Director. “We're looking forward to combining all of the great energy and experience of all of our current and new volunteers to exponentially increase our grassroots outreach and fundraising.”
