Sour Cream Dips & Cheese," a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Race, took place at Dover International Speedway in Dover, Del. National Chamber Players Concert May 5, 2009 On Tuesday evening, May 5, the National Chamber Players performed a concert in Alexandria, Va. to benefit Autism Speaks. Master cellist James Lee led a group of performers from the DC-based National Symphony Orchestra in a brilliant performance of Felix Mendelssohn's Octet in E-Flat Major for Strings, Op. 20. This second annual benefit concert, organized by local supporters Nelson and Michele Carbonell, raised $47,000 for Autism Speaks. Students at the 170-year old Episcopal High School, the concert venue, raised additional funds for Autism Speaks earlier through a student vs. faculty basketball game. |

Autism SpeaksU 1st Annual “UWere, UAre, USpeak Autism SpeaksU 5K Race/3K Walk” (University of Massachusetts) May 3, 2009 On May 3, more than 250 University of Massachusetts students and members of the community took to a pondside field on campus to walk and race as part of the first annual “U Were, U Are, U Speak Autism SpeaksU 5K Race/3K Walk” benefiting Autism Speaks. The event was coordinated by Sigma Delta Tau Sorority and Alpha Epsilon Pi Fraternity. Rock 'til it Stops
April 25, 2009 On Saturday, April 25, more than 500 people attended the 3rd annual Rock 'Til It Stops, held at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. The event, which celebrated 50 years of Motown with a performance by the Funk Brothers, raised nearly $172,000 and honored Dr. Bernadine Healy, Ronn & Bess Richard, and Monica Robins. Attendees enjoyed both a live and silent auction, which featured sports and music memorabilia, among other must-have items. Read more. |

HEROES for Autism
April 19, 2009 On Sunday, April 19 dozens of celebrities and music fans turned out for the HEROES for Autism event at the Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles, Calif. The event, sponsored in part by HBO with in-kind donations from NBC Universal, raised over $71,000 dollars for Autism Speaks, with additional funds expected from both an online auction and the sale of the “HEROES for Autism” online fan photo book. Bethesda Super-Sprint Triathlon
April 19, 2009 The morning of Sunday, April 19, more than 400 triathletes swarmed the campus of Georgetown Preparatory School in Bethesda, Md., for the seventh annual Bethesda Super-Sprint Triathlon, raising $90,000 for Autism Speaks and local autism charities. Autism SpeaksU Autism SpeaksU First Annual "Fear the Turtle, Find a Cure 5K Race/3K Walk" (University of Md.) April 18, 2009 Bright and early on the morning of Saturday, April 18, more than 400 University of Maryland students and members of the community took to the field outside the Comcast Center arena to pound the pavement in the Autism SpeaksU first annual, "Fear the Turtle, Find a Cure 5K Race/3K Walk." The Maryland men's basketball coach, Gary Williams, served as Grand Marshal of the event, which was emceed by the Voice of the Terrapins, Johnny Holliday. Autism SpeaksU 4th Annual We Are … Curing Autism Now 5K Race/3K Walk (Penn State University) April 4, 2009 More than 1,500 people participated in the 4th annual "We Are ... Curing Autism Now" at Penn State University in State College, Penn. The event, which is organized annually by Beta Sigma Beta, Pi Beta Phi and Sigma Delta Tau, has increased its four year total to more than $600,000. Toronto Maple Leafs Autism Awareness Night March 12, 2009 On March 12, the Toronto Maple Leafs hosted Autism Awareness Night at the Air Canada Centre. Volunteers collected donations at the gate and handed out information about autism.
