More than 2,000 people began their Fourth of July at Potomac Village in Maryland for the seventh annual Cure Autism Now/Autism Speaks 5k race/1k walk. It was the perfect day for a race, with cool temperatures and clear skies welcoming more than 820 runners, 800 walkers and many more volunteers and spectators. With the increased number of those in attendance, 2007 brought the best turnout and fundraising for the event to date, which is now a Potomac tradition.
Race director Susan Pereles had hoped this year's race would bring the event's seven-year fundraising total above the $1 million mark, and with proceeds of more than $190,000, the event surpassed Pereles' goal. "It feels very, very exciting," she said. "That was my goal for seven years." For more information about the day or to lend your support through donation, please visit www.canrun.org.
