Stars from the sports and entertainment industries joined eighteen foursomes at Deepdale Golf Club on Long Island, N.Y., for the First Annual Autism Speaks Golf Classic on June 5, 2006. The celebrity golf tournament, which was hosted by NBC's Matt Lauer, raised close to $700,000 to benefit children and adults with autism.

The event was underwritten by Autism Speaks Board member Brian Kelly and his wife Patricia. Among the stars who participated were Former NBC Nightly News anchor Tom Brokaw, baseball Hall of Famer Johnny Bench, soccer legend Mia Hamm, Saturday Night Live cast member Seth Meyers, NBC's Stone Phillips and Melissa Stark, snowboarding champ Seth Wescott and former footballer, TV broadcaster and now Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Lynn Swann.

In addition to enjoying a day of golf at this prestigious course, guests had the rare opportunity to receive golf instruction and game-winning golf tips from NBC golf analyst Gary Koch and PGA teaching instructor Jerome Andrews. Following the tournament, guests enjoyed cocktails and dinner at the club. The evening ended with a live auction hosted by Autism Speaks co-founder Bob Wright and Matt Lauer.
