WASHINGTON, DC (June 17, 2014) -- Sen. Charles Schumer (D-NY) has introduced "Avonte's Law," a bill that would provide $10 million a year in federal funding over five years to local law enforcement agencies to acquire tracking devices to protect children with disabilities who wander and to train police on how to interact with people with disabilities.

(June 4, 2014) -- 16-year-old Jeffrey Perez Monday morning after being hit by several vehicles on the Interstate in San Antonio, Texas. Jeffrey had been reported missing overnight on Sunday. The Bexar County Medical Examiner identified today that the body did indeed belong to Jeffrey.

(May 31, 2014) -- The body of a missing Lake County, Fla. girl was found early Saturday morning in a pond in front of Leesburg Regional Medical Center.

Beyonce Reddick slipped out of her house, which is near the hospital, about 5:30 p.m. Friday, police Sgt. Kim Stewart told the Orlando Sentinel.

Rockville, MD (May 31, 2014) -- The Montgomery County Police Department and Autism Speaks partnered  together to host the second annual “Autism Night Out” Friday night at the  Montgomery County Public Safety Training Academy in Rockville, Maryland.

(May 23, 2014) - A Bellevue, Neb., family is outraged after their 9-year-old son with autism wandered out of school without anyone knowing. The boy apparently walked out of school after lunch and made his way home.

The boy’s mother, Stephanie Parks, told KETV, “He just popped right in the door and asked for a snack.”

 Parks says she called the school and informed them that her son was not in building. Bellevue Public Schools officials say they are working with the family to correct what went wrong that day.

(May 22, 2014) -- 6-year-old Raul Espinosa died yesterday after being hit by a school bus in Milwaukee County. Raul who had severe autism wandered from his house earlier that day without his caregivers knowing. Milwaukee County's medical examiner office identified today that the body did indeed belong to Raul.
