WASHINGTON, DC (May 22, 2014) -- The U.S. House of Representatives today approved a new Defense budget which includes a requirement that TRICARE dramatically improve access to applied behavior analysis (ABA) for all military children with developmental disabilities. Action moves next to the Senate.

WASHINGTON, DC (May 9, 2014) -- Bipartisan legislation that would require TRICARE to cover applied behavior analysis (ABA) for all military children with developmental disabilities, including autism, at medically prescribed levels was introduced today in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Sponsored by Reps. John Larson (D-CT) and Tom Rooney (R-FL), the Caring for Military Children with Developmental Disabilities Act of 2014 marks the latest effort in Congress to improve and standardize medical coverage of ABA therapy under TRICARE, the military health system.

WASHINGTON, DC (April 9, 2014) -- Military families raising children with autism and Down syndrome today called on Congress to overhaul insurance coverage provided under TRICARE for applied behavior analysis (ABA) during Capitol Hill briefings organized by Autism Speaks. Reps. John Larson (D-CT) and Tom Rooney (R-FL), who have championed TRICARE reform bills in the past, said they remain committed to improving ABA coverage for military kids and will soon introduce new legislation.

WASHINGTON, DC (February 6, 2014) -- TRICARE, the military healthcare program, has eased onerous testing and assessment requirements for retiring service members to access applied behavior analysis (ABA) under its Pilot program for non-active duty family members.

WASHINGTON, DC (December 13, 2013) -- An 11th-hour agreement on a new Defense bill hammered out by the Senate and the House dropped dozens of proposed amendments, including a provision to improve TRICARE coverage for ABA treatment for military dependents with developmental disabilities, including autism.

WASHINGTON, DC (October 5, 2013) -- Autism Speaks has joined the American Academy of Pediatrics, Children's Hospital Association, Easter Seals and other major advocacy groups in their appeal for TRICARE to overhaul its pediatric care for military kids, including the delivery of applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy.
