LAS VEGAS (November 30, 2012) -- Lorri Shealy Unumb, Autism Speaks' vice president for state government affairs, was named the winner of the NASCAR Foundation's second annual Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award, resulting in a $100,000 donation to the Autism Academy of South Carolina.

GREENVILLE (May 1, 2012) -- Lorri Unumb, JD, Autism Speaks' vice president for state government affairs, spoke about autism insurance reform and the need for employers with self-funded plans to voluntarily offer coverage as special guest speaker at the 2012 Upstate Diversity Leadership Awards dinner at the TD Convention Center in Greenville.

Unumb wrote South Carolina's groundbreaking 2007 "Ryan's Law" which has led 28 other states to enact autism insurance reform laws.

(SOUTH CAROLINA - June 7, 2007) The South Carolina House and Senate overrode Gov. Mark Sanford's 11th hour veto of a bill requiring health insurance coverage for individuals with autism spectrum disorder. The bill, “Ryan's Law”, previously passed by both the House and Senate, was vetoed on June 6, 2007 by the Governor, and was brought back to the floor on June 7, where the House and Senate voted unanimously to override the veto.
