Small Business Town Hall Series Wraps Up

This fall, Autism Speaks was proud to host a series of Small Business Town Hall meetings in nine cities across the country. These interactive public forums were part of “Advancing the Role and Impact of Small Businesses in Employing Adults with Autism,” an Autism Speaks initiative funded by a generous grant from the Ireland Family Foundation.

Small Business Town Hall Held in LA

On the evening of Wednesday, October 2, Autism Speaks held its fourth Small Business Town Hall meeting of the fall – this time in Los Angeles, California hosted by UCLA Center for Autism Research and Treatment. In front of nearly 100 participants in the Semel Institute Auditorium at UCLA, five businesses that successfully employ individuals with autism were featured.

Lisa Goring, vice president of family services for Autism Speaks, and Lori and Gregg Ireland, the co-founders of Extraordinary Ventures, appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box on Monday morning to discuss efforts to increase employment opportunities for adults with autism. The story focused on tonight’s Small Business Town Hall which takes place Monday evening at Credit Suisse in New York City.

First Small Business Town Hall Held in Philadelphia

On Monday evening, Autism Speaks held its first Small Business Town Hall meeting, hosted by the A.J. Drexel Autism Institute at Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. Over 130 people participated in the event, including adults with autism and their families, small business owners, employment service providers and local politicians.
