More than 600 attendees participated in the 6th Annual Oregon Walk Now for Autism Speaks at Alpenrose Dairy on a beautiful, sunny, and warm Sunday morning! We had an incredible turnout for a day that featured the Portland Timbers’ Timber Joey in the crowd and Oregon Teacher of the Year, Brett Bigham, who not only spoke to the crowd about his amazing honor as the first Special Education teacher honored for Oregon, but had donations from twelve different states and a $20 note from Australia, from the Australian National Teacher!

SALEM, OR (August 14, 2014) -- Acting in response to a string of successful lawsuits against the insurance industry, an Oregon state agency announced today that it would prepare a directive requiring all private health insurers to cover applied behavior analysis (ABA) for autism.

PORTLAND (January27, 2014) -- Autism Speaks has endorsed SB.1523 which would correct an oversight in Oregon's 2013 autism insurance reform law by assuring that state employees, teachers and employees of the Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) gain coverage for applied behavior analysis (ABA) and other treatments for autism.

PORTLAND (January 3, 2014) -- A complaint filed in federal court here against Providence Health Plan for  denying claims for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for autism will move forward as a class action affecting all Providence policyholders in Oregon.

TUALITIN (September 17, 2013) -- Supporters and opponents of applied behavior analysis (ABA) presented their cases to a state commission which will advise the Oregon Health Plan whether it should cover the therapy for 400,000 low-income children. The dispute was reported by The Lund Report.

SALEM (Aug. 27, 2013) -- Governor John Kitzhaber conducted a bill-signing ceremony in his office today with the Oregon autism community to celebrate the enactment of legislation that made Oregon the 34th state to enact autism insurance reform.
