Researchers at the National Institutes of Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Cincinnati Children's Hospital and the University Of Cincinnati College Of Medicine reported higher levels of growth-related hormones in boys with autism spectrum disorders as compared to typically developing boys. Researchers examined height, weight, levels of growth-related hormones and head circumference in 71 boys with autism or autism spectrum disorders and in 59 boys who did not have autism.

NEW YORK (May 16, 2006) - Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) will serve as the honorary chair for the fifth annual Westchester-Fairfield Walk for Autism Research on Sunday, June 4, it was announced today by Walk Co-Chairs Carol Christiaanse, Nancy McCarthy and Alison Singer. The Walks for Autism Research – which will be held in 43 locations across the country throughout the year -- are the signature fundraising events of Autism Speaks, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing awareness of autism and raising money to fund autism research.

(NEW YORK, NY – May 17, 2006) – Autism Speaks and GRASP (the Global Regional Asperger Syndrome Partnership) will pen articles for each other's web sites in an effort to create a substantive and mutually respectful dialogue about why they differ on using the word "cure" in relation to autism, the two organizations announced today.

NAAR is proud to announce a partnership with the National Institutes of Health and two other leading autism organizations to fund three awards that resulted from the autism susceptibility gene discovery request for applications (RFA) co-developed by NAAR and the NIH.
