ALBANY, NY (March 4, 2009) – Autism Speaks, the nation’s largest autism advocacy organization, today announced its support for S.2366/ A.6001, also known the autism insurance reform bill.  The legislation would require private health insurance companies to cover the screening, diagnosis, testing and treatment of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) for individuals up to the age of 21.   The maximum benefit would be $36,000 per year.

(ALBANY, NY - August 16, 2007) New York Governor Eliot Spitzer has signed A-5396A, known as the 'Burden of Proof" bill, into law.
The law will require that school districts, not parents, bear the burden of proof in special education hearings for children with disabilities such as autism. The law will allow parents to protect their child's right to an education without hiring an attorney.
