NEW YORK (Oct. 2, 2012) -- Judith Ursitti, Autism Speaks' director of state government affairs, will familiarize parents, caregivers and professionals with New York's new autism insurance reform law at a series of workshops conducted across the state through December. The new law takes effect November 1.

ALBANY (April 14, 2012) -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo has signed a proclamation declaring April Autism Awareness Month in New York. The proclamation notes the recent Centers for Disease Control study finding the prevalence of autism has risen to 1 in 88 American children, as well as the autism insurance reform law Cuomo signed last year that goes into operation this November.

NEW YORK (May 14, 2012) -- Autism Speaks today issued a Memo of Support for S.7400, the Protection of People with Special Needs Act." Sponsored by Sen. Roy McDonald, the bill incorporates an enforcement initiative proposed by Governor Andrew Cuomo to crack down on abuse and neglect of the state's special needs population. Read the memo here

NEW YORK, N.Y. (June 23, 2011) – Autism Speaks applauded Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York Legislature for reaching final agreement on a bill that will require insurance companies to provide coverage of critical autism therapies for both children and adults. An amended bill (A.8512) reflecting the agreement was voted out of the Legislature today and will be sent to Governor Cuomo for his signature.
