(April 10, 2014) - Philadelphia Daily News Columnist Ronnie Polaneczky examines the tragic case of Christina Sankey, a 37-year-old woman with severe autism who disappeared in the company of her caregiver on March 6, 2014 inside a Macy's department store in Philadephia. Tragically, Sankey's body was discovered the next day five miles away.
Missing 15-year-old Edward Davis, who has autism, has been found safe, according to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. Miami Police had been searching for the boy after he went missing from his residence at about 5:15 P.M. Sunday.
A 2012 study confirmed what many parents know well: Wandering by children with autism is common, dangerous and puts tremendous stress on families.
