JEFFERSON CITY (February 3, 2014) -- Over 3,000 Missourians with autism are accessing treatment through the state's 2010 autism insurance reform law, but the impact on overall claims cost remains "negligible" at 0.2 percent, a state agency reported today.

JEFFERSON CITY (February 5, 2013) -- A Missouri state agency has found that the state's 2010 autism insurance reform law fully ramped up in 2012, yet still produced "negligible" impact on the state's overall health costs. The $6.6 million for autism benefits represented 0.16 percent of total health claims, a fraction of the 3 percent impact insurance lobbyists had warned when fighting the bill in the legislature.

In 2012 State-of-the-State Address, Governor says insurance reform was not enough

JEFFERSON CITY (January 17, 2012) -- Gov. Jay Nixon, in his 2012 State-of-the-State Address, called on the Missouri Legislature to take the next step in improving access to care for children with autism by working to increase the number of licensed care providers.

Nixon noted how Missouri in 2010 passed landmark autism insurance reform legislation to ensure that children with autism get the therapy they need.

NEW YORK, NY (February 2, 2012)  Autism Speaks, the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization, today cited a new report issued by the Missouri Department of Insurance as the latest evidence to discredit claims by the insurance industry that providing autism benefits will cause premiums to skyrocket for all policyholders.

NEW YORK, NY (June 11, 2010) -- Autism Speaks joined Missouri families, the Missouri Autism Coalition, and other autism organizations yesterday in applauding Governor Jay Nixon for signing into law House Bill 1311, which requires insurance companies to provide coverage of evidence-based, medically necessary autism therapies, including behavioral health treatment such as applied behavior analysis. Governor Nixon signed the bill into law yesterday in Jefferson City, beginning a multi-city signing tour scheduled for several cities around the state.

NEW YORK, NY (May 12, 2010) -- Autism Speaks joined Missouri families, the Missouri Autism Coalition, and other autism organizations today in applauding the members of the State Legislature for their passage of House Bill 1311, which requires insurance companies to provide coverage of evidence-based, medically necessary autism therapies, including behavioral health treatment such as applied behavior analysis. The bill now heads to the Governor Nixon’s desk to be signed into law.
