ATLANTA (February 25, 2014) -- The Georgia Senate voted unanimously for a compromise autism insurance bill after hearing several lawmakers, some in tears and one quoting from the Gettysburg Address, argue for passage of the bill. It goes now to the House of Representatives.

ATLANTA (February 20, 2014) -- The Georgia Senate Insurance Committee yesterday unanimously approved a new autism insurance reform bill that had been introduced just hours earlier. During the hearing, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle [below], making his first-ever appearance at a committee meeting, offered support for the state's autism community.

ATLANTA (January 16, 2014) --Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has proposed the introduction of autism insurance coverage through the state employee health plan in his new budget proposal. If approved by the Legislature, the coverage would be the first in Georgia for applied behavior analysis (ABA) and other medically necessary autism treatments.

ATLANTA (November 19, 2013) -- The Senate and House sponsors of Ava's Law said they will press forward for passage of the autism insurance reform bill when the Georgia Legislature reconvenes in 2014.

ATLANTA (September 30, 2013) -- Autism Speaks is alerting Georgia advocates to a series of upcoming events to build support for Ava's Law, the autism insurance bill, when it comes before the legislature in early 2014.

Autism Speaks and Six Flags Over Georgia hosted an Autism Awareness Day this past Sunday, September 8th for more than 100 families. Autism Speaks families were welcomed an hour early to enjoy selected rides free of lines and crowds. Park employees proudly displayed Autism Speaks stickers while the marquee and intercom promoted Autism Awareness Day to all attendees.

ATLANTA (June 5, 2013) -- The Special Advisory Commission on Mandated Benefits held its first hearing on Ava's Law, hearing from supporters and opponents of the Georgia autism insurance reform bill. The bill was sent by the Legislature to the unelected panel for hearings earlier this year.

ATLANTA (February 22, 2013) -- Autism Speaks today endorsed SB.191, the Senate version of 'Ava's Law," which would require state-regulated health plans to cover autism-related therapies. The bill was introduced by Sen. John Albers (R-Roswell).
