January 21, 2014

WASHINGTON, DC (January 21, 2014) -- House and Senate budget negotiators have agreed to continue funding the Department of Defense Autism Research Program (DoDARP) at $6 million in the next defense budget.

Congress has included funding for peer-reviewed autism research through the Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs (CDMRP) since 2007. About $47 million has been set aside for autism research through the program since it started.

WASHINGTON, DC (December 11, 2013) -- The U.S. House of Representatives today approved the Gabriella Miller Kids First Research Act on a bipartisan 295-103 vote. The bill was first announced by House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) on April 2, World Autism Awareness Day, as a way to increase federal funding for pediatric research, including autism.

WASHINGTON, DC (November 14, 2013) -- U.S. Senator Bob Casey [D-PA] and Reps. Tim Griffin [R-AR] and Kevin Yoder [R-KS] have joined the Congressional Autism Caucus, a bipartisan group in Congress that helps lead the federal reponse to autism. The three lawmakers made their decisions during the Autism Speaks to Washington national policy summit.

WASHINGTON, DC (October 10, 2013) -- Autism Speaks today issued autism-specific resources to help families understand the Affordable Care Act and the new changes that will affect health insurance coverage, beginning in 2014. These resources are a prelude to the “Autism Speaks Insurance Link,” a new interactive web tool Autism Speaks will unveil shortly to help families determine whether they are eligible for autism benefits under their current coverage.

WASHINGTON, DC (October 5, 2013) -- Autism Speaks has joined the American Academy of Pediatrics, Children's Hospital Association, Easter Seals and other major advocacy groups in their appeal for TRICARE to overhaul its pediatric care for military kids, including the delivery of applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy.

WASHINGTON, DC (October 3, 2013) -- The Office of Personnel Management, which manages the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHB), has released information on insurance coverage for applied behavior analysis (ABA) in 2014. The FEHB program is the nation's largest employer-sponsored health benefits program, covering 8.2 million federal employees, retirees and dependents.
