WASHINGTON, DC (May 12, 2014) -- A proposed five-year extension of the Combating Autism Act has been introduced in Congress, calling for $260 million annually in new federal funding, a revamped Interagency Autism Coordinating Council (IACC), and an initiative to address the growing needs of adults with autism. The law will sunset September 30 unless extended by Congress and President Obama.

April 1, 2014 - Autism Speaks President Liz Feld appeared on C-SPAN's "Washington Journal" today to discuss  the CDC's new autism prevalence estimate of 1 in 68, and to emphasize the need or a comprehensive national response to autism’s rising numbers.

Feld told host Pedro Echevarria, "We have got to develop a national strategy to address the needs of the autism community across the lifespan."

WASHINGTON, DC (March 28, 2014) --Responding to yesterday's release of the new 1 in 68 autism prevalence estimate, Congressional leaders said the ABLE Act must be part of a national plan to address the public health crisis of autism. Four more House members signed on as cosponsors to the bill, raising the total to 351, while Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) became the 70th Senator to become a cosponsor.
