Nets Nearly $50,000 at Golf Classic

NAAR's volunteers and supporters in Pittsburgh netted nearly $50,000 for autism research at the inaugural Shoot Par for NAAR Golf Classic, held May 5 at the St. Clair Country Club in Upper St. Clair, Pa.

All proceeds from the tournament benefit NAAR.

Event co-chairs, John Zotter and David Fitzsimmons, reported the event was a total sell out, attracting 128 golfers as well as an estimated 150 dinner guests.

"NAAR and its mission are an inspiration to me and thousands of other parents and family members of children with autism. During our participation in a NAAR-funded baby sibling research study, doctors noted subtle signs of autism in my youngest son. Today, Ben exhibits increased eye contact and joint attention as well as age-appropriate speech and cognitive skills thanks to intense targeted early intervention therapies.

How to Participate in the Largest Autism Genetic Research Project

NAAR is currently looking for “Parents as Partners in Research” —families willing to participate in the Autism Genome Project (AGP). AGP is the largest study ever conducted to find the genes associated with inherited risk for autism.

New Projects & Sites Added Throughout the Country

NAAR's Parents as Partners in Research program is expanding to include a larger, more diverse list of research studies in need of families affected by autism spectrum disorders.



The program currently includes 29 clinical autism research studies taking place at 15 different sites throughout the United States.

An Extraordinary Story of Hope

Like many of you, my family is affected by autism.

I have three beautiful boys who have this devastating disorder. Despite our daily challenges, I continue to find hope for my children and others with autism spectrum disorders through biomedical research efforts taking place throughout the country and the world. In fact, my family has taken part in many studies focusing on autism.

WROR in Boston Sponsors Online Event

Radio station WROR 105.7 FM in Boston, a media sponsor of the Greater Boston Walk F.A.R. for NAAR, is sponsoring the first annual WROR/NAAR Online Auction, which benefits NAAR and autism research. The auction opens on Friday, June 18 and runs through June 28 and is available to anyone with access to the Internet. Auction items include a wide variety of signed memorabilia from sports personalities and rock stars as well as VIP tickets to professional sporting events and concerts.

Educational Campaign Educates Customers in 900 Stores Throughout North America

In honor of National Autism Awareness month in April, Office Depot, Inc., is teaming up with the National Alliance for Autism Research for a second year to launch an awareness campaign in Office Depot's 900 retail stores across North America.

Office Depot's awareness program educates customers with informational brochures and posters in the stores about autism and the need for increased research. The program runs through the month of April.

Gala Raises More Than $630,000 for Autism Research

NEW YORK CITY - Dick Grasso, chairman and chief executive officer of the New York Stock Exchange, played a key role in helping to raise the nation's spirit after the events of September 11th. Recently, he helped raise more than $630,000 for autism research as the honoree of the National Alliance for Autism Research's (NAAR) 2002 Award Dinner.
