Over the last twenty years, the reported prevalence of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) in the United States has increased more than 600 percent, bringing us to the now familiar statistic of 1 in 110 children. Even higher rates may soon be in the news, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) prepares to release its latest autism statistics.

Why are we experiencing such dramatic increases in reported cases over such a short period of time?

WASHINGTON, DC (December 23, 2011) -- President Obama today signed into law an omnibus budget bill that includes an estimated $230 million in new federal funding for autism research and services, the first of three annual appropriations authorized under the Combating Autism Reauthorization Act.

NEW YORK (May 16, 2006) - Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) will serve as the honorary chair for the fifth annual Westchester-Fairfield Walk for Autism Research on Sunday, June 4, it was announced today by Walk Co-Chairs Carol Christiaanse, Nancy McCarthy and Alison Singer. The Walks for Autism Research – which will be held in 43 locations across the country throughout the year -- are the signature fundraising events of Autism Speaks, a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing awareness of autism and raising money to fund autism research.
