LOS ANGELES (July 8, 2013) -- The Los Angeles Times reported on the transition of 900,000 California children from the Healthy Families program into Medi-Cal which has led to a cutoff of applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy, despite assurances from state officials there was to be no loss in services.

LOS ANGELES (July 1, 2013) -- Autism Speaks and Autism Deserves Equal Coverage have filed a friend-of-the-court brief with a California appeals court to enable state workers to access applied behavior analysis (ABA) therapy for their dependents with autism. Nearly 3,700 Californians with autism are currently being denied ABA because of a dispute over licensure for ABA providers.

SACRAMENTO (June 18 , 2013) -- The California Legislature and Governor Brown were unable to reach a funding agreement to continue autism therapies for 900,000 children who transitioned out of the Healthy Families Program earlier this year into Medi-Cal. Autism Speaks will work until every person with autism has appropriate access to necessary medical therapies, regardless of how they access that care.

SACRAMENTO (May 24, 2013) -- Five bills designed to improve the operation of Regional Centers have been voted out of the state Senate Appropriations Committee and sent to the Senate floor.

The legislation is in addition to a measure already approved by the Senate, SB.126, that would extend the sunset on California's autism insurance reform law from 2014 to 2019.

SACRAMENTO (May 16, 2013) -- The California Senate voted 36-0 to extend the state's 2011 autism insurance reform law, which is set to expire next year, until 2019. Sponsored by Seante President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg, the measure, SB.126, moves next to the Assembly.

SACRAMENTO (April 18, 2013) -- Senate President pro Tem Darrell Steinberg said he will work for coverage of behavioral health treatment under the Medi-Cal Managed Health Care program and reiterated his commitment to a five-year extension of the state's 2011 autism insurance reform law.
