HONOLULU (January 15, 2014) -- Autism Speaks today endorsed SB.2054, the 2014 Hawaii autism insurance reform bill which, if enacted, would make Hawaii the 35th state to require many health plans to cover applied behavior analysis (ABA) and other therapies for autism.

OVERLAND PARK, KS (January 9, 2014) -- Kansas autism advoates will get a briefing on plans for 2014 to expand the state's autism insurance reform law to cover more families. Enacted as a pilot program in 2010 for state employees, the benefit was made permanent last year but remains limited to state employees.

PORTLAND (January 3, 2014) -- A complaint filed in federal court here against Providence Health Plan for  denying claims for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for autism will move forward as a class action affecting all Providence policyholders in Oregon.

ALBANY (January 10, 2014) -- Governor Andrew Cuomo today signed a bill facilitating insurance coverage for Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy for autism by creating a state licensing procedure for practitioners. The new licensing process puts to rest a bureaucratic issue that early last year thwarted ABA coverage under the state's autism insurance reform law.

BALTIMORE (December 9, 2013) -- New regulations that would have brought autism insurance coverage to Maryland in 2014 will instead be reproposed in January, the Maryland Insurance Administration has announced.

ATLANTA (November 19, 2013) -- The Senate and House sponsors of Ava's Law said they will press forward for passage of the autism insurance reform bill when the Georgia Legislature reconvenes in 2014.

SALT LAKE CITY (November 5, 2013) -- Salt Lake County Mayor Ben McAdams yesterday unveiled his proposal to extend autism insurance benefits to county employees. If approved as part of the county's 2014 budget proposal, the autism coverage would be the first in Utah which has the nation's highest rate of autism prevalence.

SACRAMENTO (October 10, 2013) -- California's 2011 autism insurance law, which was scheduled to expire next summer, has been extended through 2016 under legislation signed yesterday by Gov. Jerry Brown. Brown also signed some bills and vetoed others in a package of diversity legislation designed to improve autism services for the state's disadvantaged communities.

HARRISBURG, PA (October 4, 2013) -- A Pennsylvania court's ruling that families have no right to appeal adverse decisions on insurance claims - but insurance companies do, is "absurd and intolerable" and should be reversed, Autism Speaks has argued in a friend-of-the-court brief filed with the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
