Menendez, Autism Speaks Celebrate Enactment of Autism CARES

PARAMUS, NJ (August 20, 2014) -- Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), the lead Senate sponsor of the Autism CARES Act, celebrated the signing of the bill into law at an event here with representatives of Autism Speaks and New Jersey disabilities groups. The new law, which authorizes $1.3 billion in new federal research funding over five years, was signed earlier this month by President Obama.

Autism CARES—introduced by Sens. Menendez (D-NJ) and Enzi (R-WY) and Reps. Chris Smith (R-NJ) and Mike Doyle(D-PA)—enjoyed broad bipartisan support in both the Senate and the House.

Autism CARES Endorsed By Leading Disabilities Organizations

WASHINGTON, DC (June 12, 2014) -- The Consortium of Citizens with Disabilities (CCD), a coalition of 110 national disabilities organizations, has announced its support for Autism CARES, the amended version of legislation before Congress that would preserve federal funding for autism activites over the next five years. The bill has been introduced in the Senate while the House version has already cleared committee and is headed to a floor vote with 79 co-sponsors.

CARA 2014 Marches Ahead In Congress Under New Name

WASHINGTON, DC (June 10, 2014) -- Legislation to renew and rename the Combating Autism Act was introduced in the Senate while a House version cleared committee and was sent to the House floor. Renamed Autism CARES (the Autism Collaboration, Accountability, Research, Education and Support Act), the legislation is now identical in both houses of Congress and would continue federal funding for autism research and other activites at an annual $260 million level for another five years.
