Rep. McMorris-Rogers Talks Up ABLE With CNN

WASHINGTON, DC -- CNN aired a feature on Rep. Cathy McMorris-Rogers (R-WA), an original co-sponsor of ABLE, and the mother of a son, Cole, with Down syndrome.

Discussing her support for ABLE, McMorris-Rogers said, "We have hopes and dreams for Cole, and we want him to be all that he can be, and we want to give him the strong foundation so that he can pursue a job and hopefully independent life."

Sen. Casey Rallies Support for ABLE During Light It Up Blue

NEW YORK (April 3, 2012) -- Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) said he will step up efforts to build support in the U.S. Senate for the ABLE bill during a Light It Up Blue ceremony at the Empire State Building. Senator Casey, the prime Senate sponsor of ABLE (S.1872), joined with Autism Speaks Co-founder Bob Wright at the event.

Autism Speaks Endorses ABLE Bill Creating Tax-free Savings Accounts

Parents raising children with disabilities, including autism, could soon save for their futures with tax-free “529″ savings accounts without jeopardizing their eligibility for other benefits.
 
The new accounts would be authorized under the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act of 2011, which was introduced today in Congress with the support of Autism Speaks, The Arc, the National Down Syndrome Society and a host of other disability rights groups.
 

Autism Speaks Joins in Support of Bill that Would Create Tax-free Savings Accounts for People with Disabilities

WASHINGTON, D.C.  (November 15, 2011) – Autism Speaks today joined advocates for the disabled and congressional leaders in supporting the introduction of the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act of 2011, which would enable contributions to tax-free 529 savings accounts – similar to funds for college savings -- for people with autism and other disabilities.
