HARRISBURG, PA (October 4, 2013) -- A Pennsylvania court's ruling that families have no right to appeal adverse decisions on insurance claims - but insurance companies do, is "absurd and intolerable" and should be reversed, Autism Speaks has argued in a friend-of-the-court brief filed with the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

WASHINGTON, DC (October 3, 2013) -- The Office of Personnel Management, which manages the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHB), has released information on insurance coverage for applied behavior analysis (ABA) in 2014. The FEHB program is the nation's largest employer-sponsored health benefits program, covering 8.2 million federal employees, retirees and dependents.

TUALITIN (September 17, 2013) -- Supporters and opponents of applied behavior analysis (ABA) presented their cases to a state commission which will advise the Oregon Health Plan whether it should cover the therapy for 400,000 low-income children. The dispute was reported by The Lund Report.

HARTFORD, CT (September 16, 2013) -- United Technologies Corporation (UTC) has alerted its employees that it will voluntarily start offering autism insurance benefits, including coverage of applied behavior analysis (ABA), starting in 2014.

COLUMBUS (Sept. 13, 2013) -- The U.S. Department of Education has directed Ohio to provide ABA for children under age 3 through its federally supported "Help Me Grow" program, stepping into a dispute that is already the subject of litigation.

SACRAMENTO (September 6, 2013) -- The California Senate gave final legislative approval to a bill extending the state's autism insurance reform law, set to expire next summer, through 2016. The bill now goes to Governor Jerry Brown for his signature.

ANNAPOLIS (September 9, 2013) -- A Maryland proposal making clear that health insurers under existing state law must cover applied behavior analysis (ABA) and other autism therapies needs to be strengthened to maximize coverage for as many families as possible, Autism Speaks has urged in a letter cosigned by leading Maryland advocacy groups.
