Cure Autism Now Joins FasterCures in Efforts to Speed Medical Research
Cure Autism Now was one of eighteen innovative disease and disorder research organizations that participated in a summit last December convened by FasterCures, an "action tank" whose mission is to reduce the time it takes to discover and deliver new treatments for life-threatening diseases.
Participants began the day by discussing the limits of performing cutting-edge medical research within the context of the traditional research system, and crafted an agenda for supporting innovation and successful collaboration in disease research. Cure Autism Now's Autism Genetic Resource Exchange (AGRE) was highlighted in the summit report as a case study in collecting and sharing research resources.
Enthusiasm was high at that gathering, and participating organizations were eager to identify additional opportunities to address the challenges that cut across disease and disorder research. This past week, FasterCures hosted the first meeting of TRAIN, The Research Acceleration and Innovation Network, to identify a short list of concrete projects that participating organizations can collectively undertake to help innovators like Cure Autism Now do their work better and faster. Cure Autism Now's Science Director, Dr. Sophia Colamarino, was pleased to represent CAN at this meeting and welcomed this opportunity to collaborate with other innovative medical research groups
