Autism Speaks and United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation Host Collaborative Symposia
Autism Speaks is proud to partner with the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation (UMDF) to host a research session focusing on the relationship between autism and mitochondrial
diseases. This special science symposia will be held on June 26, 2009 at the annual UMDF meeting, taking place this year outside Washington D.C. at the Sheraton Premiere at Tysons Corner, Va. One of the major presentations, titled "Mitochondrial Disease and Autism," will be given by Dr. Douglas Wallace, recipient of a 2008 AS High Risk High Impact grant (see research proposal summary here). A second talk titled "Are Some Forms of Autism Mitochondrial Disorders?" will be given by Dr. Salvatore DiMauro.
This Autism Speaks sponsored session is part of our ongoing effort to collaborate with the UMDF to encourage dialogue between autism and mitochondrial disease researchers. The cost of attending the session is $50 for non-UMDF members, and attendees will be able to view research in this area and attend other science sessions occurring that day.
