NAARRATIVE Archive

Launched in 1997, NAARRATIVE was the official publication of the National Alliance for Autism Research. The quarterly journal featured news on NAAR funded research programs, columns on autism research written by prominent researchers and directors from the National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and others as well as information on Walk F.A.R. for NAAR and NAAR development news.

PRINCETON, NJ – A new web-based genetics education tool for parents and family members of individuals with autism that was funded by the National Alliance for Autism Research (NAAR) has recently been unveiled to the general public.

NAAR Launches Largest Autism Genetics Study

The National Alliance for Autism Research has launched the NAAR Autism Genome Project the largest study ever conducted to find the genes associated with inherited risk for autism. Over the next six months, about 170 of the world's leading genetics researchers will pool their resources and use a promising new technology, the DNA microarray, to scan the human genome in the search for the genetic causes of this devastating disorder, which continue to elude the medical field as prevalence rises.

(NEW YORK, NY - June 19, 2006) – Autism Speaks is funding 63 new biomedical research projects at a total value of over $6.9 million. The awards cover a broad spectrum of autism sciences, including cognitive/motor processing, diagnosis, epidemiology, genetics, language and communication, neurobiology (including molecular biology and immunology), neuroimaging, neuropathology and treatment.
