Autism Speaks Announces Partnership with The Bachman Company to Raise Awareness
Snack Food Leader will Feature Autism Awareness Stickers on Nearly One Million Select Products
NEW YORK, NY (February 14, 2007) -- Autism Speaks, the largest non-profit organization dedicated to increasing awareness of autism and raising money to fund autism research, today announced a partnership with The Bachman Company to bring its message of autism awareness to thousands of homes in the Northeast .

Beginning in February, and running through April during Autism Awareness Month, special bags of Bachman's Thin ‘n Right® Pretzels, Jax® Cheese Curls, Chipitos® Tortilla Chips and their popular Tray Pack Pretzel Stix will feature Autism Speaks stickers with one of the four following facts:

  • A new case of autism is diagnosed almost every 20 minutes
  • More children will be diagnosed with autism this year than with AIDS, diabetes & cancer combined
  • 1 in 166 children is diagnosed with autism (future packaging will reflect the Centers for Disease Control's newly-released 1 in 150 finding)
  • 67 children are diagnosed with autism per day
The stickers will also list Autism Speaks' website as a resource for parents to learn the early signs of autism.

“We are incredibly grateful to The Bachman Company for helping us to reach millions of parents with these important messages,” said Suzanne Wright, co-founder of Autism Speaks. "Parents need to know that autism is much more common than they may think, and that they talk to their doctor as soon as possible if they suspect a developmental delay.”

“The Bachman Company is proud to partner with Autism Speaks in an effort to help promote awareness of autism spectrum disorders,” said Scott Carpenter, President of The Bachman Company. “Over the past decade an alarming number of families have been silently struggling to understand these disorders. Autism Speaks has given them a voice, and a community, but most of all real hope.”

ABOUT AUTISM
Autism is a complex brain disorder that inhibits a person's ability to communicate and develop social relationships, and is often accompanied by extreme behavioral challenges. Autism Spectrum Disorders are diagnosed in one in 150 children in the United States, affecting four times as many boys as girls. The diagnosis of autism has increased tenfold in the last decade. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have called autism a national public health crisis whose cause and cure remain unknown.
